INTRODUCTION
Food x literature
We have all encountered someone who proudly claims, “I love to read everything, I just like to read.” It’s often said with a certain air of importance, as if the act of reading itself is inherently virtuous, regardless of the content. And while there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a broad spectrum of literature, is it really something to boast about? Imagine if someone said, “I love to eat everything, I just like to eat.” It doesn’t sound nearly as profound, does it?
Literature, much like food, is deeply varied and highly complex. This inspired me to connect different genres of literature with various types of food and restaurants. I have created a website to offer a possible insight into this relationship by comparing different genres in literature with various types of food and/or restaurants: from fast food to fine dining, from niche regional specialties to universally loved tastes. I’ve paired authors and genres with the culinary world to explore how we consume and value Each of these authors in terms of food and literature. Each genre and author offers a distinct “flavor,” and understanding these parallels reveals surprising insights into both our literary and culinary tastes. I hope you will enjoy this literary and culinary journey with me!
